An innovative new LNG ship has received financing and will be built at Imabari Shipbuilding. Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has signed a buyer’s credit agreement with San Isidro LNG I BV, a joint venture controlled by Imabari Shipbuilding and Mitsubishi Corporation, to fund the construction of a 178,000 cu m Japanese LNG carrier.
The loan is co-financed with Mizuho Bank, with the Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) providing insurance.
The carrier comes with a new type of propulsion system which the yard claims will make it one of the most efficient LNG ships in the world.
Spain’s Gas Natural Fenosa will take the ship on charter when it delivers.
